A lot has happened in the past few weeks. Rihanna’s new Fenty Beauty makeup line launched at Sephora and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West announced their third child. On top of all of the newsworthy events that occurred, New York Fashion Week has gone on fearlessly and we want to give it the spotlight.
There were many amazing shows at NYFW this September 2017. Some big names include Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, Franco Lacosta, and Tory Burch. Amongst all of the shows, a few collections stood out to us that we need to address for the love of fashion.
Here are our top picks from this year’s NYFW:
Tom Ford you did it again. If you haven’t already seen a photo of model, Gigi Hadid wearing this stunning pink dress then you haven’t been keeping up with NYFW. Not only did Tom Ford’s collection stand out as a whole with its 90s inspired fashion, but also this piece in particular opened the show by storm. The dress exudes elegance that brings you back in time with a modern twist. Futuristic bot meets 90s glam—absolutely timeless.
Ulla Johnson’s collection showcased on the 7th was a dreamy show that enchanted the audience. The pureness of the 2018 collection was beautifully exemplified through the decorative flowers on stage and the sheer and lightweight fabrics worn by the models. With most of the collection focusing on light colours such as pinks and whites, there was a freeing feel about the line. This white dress makes us feel like running through a garden of flowers on a sunny afternoon.
Glamour comes naturally to Pamella Roland. As a well-known designer for the stars, her Spring 2018 collection is just another example of what she can do for the glamour-enduring soul. The collection was inspired by Roland’s recent trip to Monaco. Roland told Vogue, “Everything is just beautiful there. The cars, the buildings, the people—my customer wants beautiful, over-the-top gowns, and that’s the place where you’re going to see them.” In addition, Grace Kelly was an inspiration for the collection. Roland is the go-to designer for all things luxury, glamour, and elegance. We can totally see Jennifer Lawrence rocking this beautiful black dress.
Anybody wearing this ready-to-wear look will rock the city runways, which we call streets. For Adam Selman, the American girl-next-door is no plane Jane. She is bold, sassy, and stylish. Selman’s collection features fun checkered patterns, blue floral prints, trench coats, and red, white and blue patterns. His whole collection is fun and it brings a cool-girl vibe to the runway.
There was a lot of talent showcased at this year’s NYFW but these four designers really caught our eyes with their stunning pieces and collections. Who were your favourites this year? We want to know!
